Lorem ipsum is the designer's best friend — a piece of scrambled Latin text that has served as the de facto placeholder in publishing and design since the 1500s. Its source is a passage from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (On the Ends of Good and Evil) by the Roman philosopher Cicero, written in 45 BC. An unknown printer scrambled it for a type specimen book, and it has remained the industry standard ever since. The reason it works so well is simple: the Latin-like words fill space realistically without your brain trying to read them, so you can focus on layout, typography, and design instead of content.
